Yesterday at the bp mentoring was kind of hazardous. THe kids were especially disobedient yesterday. The primary six can play board games coz they had finished their PSLE. However, the p5 students had to have a 2-hour academic-based work for them, instead of the usual 1 hour mentoring, the other hour games. Apparently the kids were unhappy and couldn't concentrate and start to revolt. The indian chief from them, that violent and vulgar gal i told you about, Jinting, actually took lead and told the rest to stop doing those worksheets we gave them. Yikai, being the fiercest mentor among us and the only lawyer amongst us, start to shout at them to go back and do their work. I could tell he had already restraint much of himself. I think in the end Songning my president had to go get their teacher-in-charge, Mrs Lim.
The malay gal i was mentoring yesterday was quite ok, not as mischievous as the rest of them. SHe was doing all the stuff i was explaining to her. I start to realise how bad my english can be at times..haha.
I actually had to use sweet to coax them into doing their work, especially for this mentee called Perlin. Super rude.
After the whole session, Songning said perhaps next time in our recruitment drive we should put fierce as one of the criterion for being a mentor. He was also updating us on the status of acquiring independence for BP mentoring. As you might have known, this British Petroleum mentoring apparently are official CCAs in smu,ntu,RI,tjc...bla bla. The reason why BP mentoring currently in NUS had to be hidden under the hoood of Rotaract Club was due to some so-called feud.
Bp mentoring was first started in NUS in the 1990s. After a while, NUS alumni and CDAC politicians rallied and come together to form this SMP, student mentorship program. Orders from the NUS OSA ordered bp mentoring to shut down..
So now my president is trying to lias with the ppl at OSA..who seems to have a change of heart in their stand towards BP mentoring. After all, NUS student mentorship program had 100 over members..having us around , with barely 30 members isn't competition at all haha.
